07.17.2006 - Terrence Marks:
Syd Barrett died last week.

He was the first frontman of Pink Floyd, which is why most of you have already heard of him. He was kicked out of the band years before they made any of the albums they're famous for. He was immensely talented. He started out strange and he kept getting stranger, until he could no longer function. Then he released two solo albums and went into seclusion.

"Opel" probably wasn't the first album I bought, but it's the first album I remember buying. I still have it. I learned to play guitar to his music - and it was obvious to anyone who heard me. Some guitarists have that unmistakable "sits around playing along with Hendrix" sound to them. I had the "sits around playing along with Barrett outtakes" sound.

His music meant a lot to me, a lot that can't be explained quickly or easily. It's why I joined an online community that I spent a decade in before leaving last year. It's what got me into a lot of the other music I listen to. It's why I listen to huge amounts of psychedelic music, hoping that if there is anything else that sounds like his work, I'd find it. It's a lot of little things that I notice about myself that I'm sure aren't obvious to anybody else.

He's also the inspiration for Brisbane's ascot.

If you have never heard Pink Floyd's "The Piper at the Gates of Dawn", you should. I cannot describe it well, except to say that it does not sound at all like any other Pink Floyd album and that "psychedelic" isn't a strong enough word for it.

For the last fifteen years, I had heard rumors about his physical health being in decline. His mental health, well, I hadn't heard anything good about that in my lifetime.

He hadn't recorded anything - he hadn't *done* anything - for over thirty years. He lived below the radar. There were a few zines about him that ran a couple issues and stopped because he wasn't doing anything of note and they'd already discussed everything about him that they felt was worth discussing.

I was afraid he might die and nobody would notice. I was afraid I wouldn't find out about it until months or years after the fact. So I was saddened by his passing, but I was glad to see it made the front page of all the news-sites I visit. Because he deserved it.

Hey look everyone, news!

I'm really sorry I didn't get that "Girlfriends" status progress up. It was on my to-do list, really... but truth be told, I thought I would be feeling a lot better and thus have it done a lot sooner than I actually did. Here's a mini-status on things as they are now: All 12 pages are drawn and inked. The files are open right now, I just need to get to them... I'm still tottering around under "a bit too sick", but truth be told, I haven't been on "I'm passing out" status yet, I just have been feeling on the verge of it for the past week. Sorry everyone!

Over at Namir Deiter... I finally updated the archives page, and added the story arc "White noise" a story arc a few months back that seems to have fallen through the cracks.

I went through the links to the left of the news and took down a couple of them due to either being dead links or sites that haven't updated in years... and I also finally added Kevin and Kell, only took me how many years? Sorry, Mr.Holbrook. Still need to update You Say it First's page, and Spare Parts (in fact, me and my flippant self is already thinking of re-designing Spare Part's page)

In You Say it First land, the FAQ and the archives page have gotten a desperately needed updated, please check it out!

As some of you Namir Deiter readers noticed, there is a new web comic in the works called "Ten Minutes too...", there isn't too much news up on it yet, but once I get some of these commissions I have on my plate from a few months ago (remember that donation thank you? XD) I'll work on it then.

Also, speaking of donation thank you items... this month's bonus book (which will only be on-line) will be the first in hopefully many ND Unlimited stories featuring various characters from all our stories that are completely uncannon in the best way possible. Terrence is the one who will be writing this story, so I'll have more info on this once he gets the time to write.

07.03.2006 - Isabel Marks:
There is a special poll up at namirdeiter.net, if you're a donator, please vote to decide what the bonus comic will be next month. As such, the bonus comic will air on Thursday and Saturday this week, thus giving me a bit more time to write this month's scripts. Thank you so very much to everyone who has donated, past and present, you all are the reason I keep going. :)

As some of you may have noticed, we thankfully made our goal for the month of June which means we're back to 7 days a week of Namir Deiter, 6 days a week of You Say if First and 2 days a week for Spare Parts. This month's wallpapers are done and last month's bonus book (Girlfriends) is nearly almost sketched (I'll be sure to put up a status on namirdeiter.net once I feel a little better). Also, since I'm feeling a bit sick right now, wallpapers and the bonus book might be a little late (as I plan on giving some pages to last month's book to $50 .net donators as a bonus thank you) as it's really hard for me to draw right now (quite honestly I'm surprised I got what I got done). As soon as they are done, I'll be sure to post them and let you all know!

And, as if you all are not sick of seeing this, if you're on MySpace, please be sure to check out my page!

It's been a somewhat slow news week here over at ND Unlimited. Hopefully once things pick up after the summer I'll have lots more stuff to talk about. :)

First off, last week over at namirdeiter.net we had our very first live chat! Thank you to TGIF, Tyler (who organized all of it!), Arctic Fox and Terry for showing up! It was a lot of fun and hopefully we can do it again (hopefully with more people and less technical difficulties).

Also on the namirdeiter.net front, we have less than a week left for the month and we're still a bit from our goal. This is going to be the last book we will be mailing out, all thank you books from here on out will be digital! So this could be your last chance to have a thank you book sent right to your door. For those of you who did donate this month or other months, thank you so very much- I wouldn't want to know where I'd be without all your help.

Speaking of books being sent right to your home, Namir Deiter Book 2 is now for sale! Please don't forget to pick yours up today over at the ND Unlimited Store (you get tons of free swag with each order)!

Don't forget to check out Spare Parts which, for the time being, is being written by myself in order to give Terrence more time to enjoy life. :) -Isabel
06.18.2006 - Terrence Marks:
So, what's new this week in ND Unlimited?

Firstly, Spare Parts got a new look to celebrate its big change: Isabel is taking over the writing. I'm tired and had been having trouble keeping up with the schedule. Right now, I'm concentrating on You Say it First (which Isabel is still co-writing).

Secondly, there's a new poll on NamirDeiter.net. If you're a donor, we want your opinion on our latest semi-secret project.

Thirdly, we're finally caught up with donation items from previous months. If you live in the US, you should have everything. If you live elsewhere, it should be on its way. It you're missing anything, let me know.

Fourthly, we're adjusting things so all of our comics share the same news file. Most of our news affects all three comics, and we don't have enough news for three separate files. So if you read this here, you don't need to read the update at the other comics too closely.

Anyhow, we hope you had a happy Father's Day.

First off...

Hi, folks. We just finished our visit to Florida and the resulting nine-hour trip back home. It's late and we're tired. We reached the $800 goal for May, barely, but not the $1000 mark. For June, the comics are going to be going back to their original schedules - Namir Deiter will update five days a week and You Say it First will update three days a week. So far we're going really well for this month and we appreciate your support.

Ok, STILL behind on e-mail and a few of last month's thank you buttons. On the plus side I'm about 50% done with "East and West", May's bonus story. I also have a bit of work done on this month's bonus book, but it would be a bit of a spoiler to mention it now... expect to see the cover in a week or more.

This month's wallpapers have yet to be made, the heat slowed me down quite a bit...but at the least I am making lots of progress on the book, but I'm sure it looks like I'm not doing much.

05.30.2006 - Isabel Marks:
Hi all!

First off, we'll be out till the end of the week, so all store orders/ donations will not be processed until next week and neither will my e-mail (which I'm still horribly behind on). Also, we still have a few buttons left to do from last month's donation gift (Terrence is having trouble with the button maker). Also, June's wallpapers will be a little late since I'll be out of town and ran out of time (sorry!).

Please be sure to check out my MySpace page, sometimes my blog contains ND and NDU related items!
